Unsanctioned, a combination of all the un sets and a few new cards, comes out near the end of the month. It will contain five thirty card decks that can be combined in many different ways. But what are un sets and is this a good product to buy?
In August, 1998, Unglued was released. It was the first un set to come out and contained silver bordered cards that were not tournament playable. Because of this, cards could do much different things than regular Magic cards and more odd possibilities could be put into set design.
The next set was Unhinged releasing in November of 2004, expanding on Unglued. Unhinged contained 141 cards, where as Unglued only had 88. Unhinged also contained beautiful full art lands that were great additions to decks. Once again all the cards were silver bordered and were not tournament legal.
And finally, Unstable, which came out in December, 2017. Unstable is one of the best of the bunch, it was made for drafting, and succeeded in making a great draft experience. It had many new ideas and the gameplay mechanics were more different and unique than other un sets. Unstable, like Unhinged, also contained amazing full art lands, which many people wanted to get a hold of.
So now that you've been caught up on the past un sets, it's time to take a look at Unsanctioned. Unsanctioned is not a new set, but a combination of past sets (Except for sixteen new cards).
Unsanctioned contains five thirty card decks, all of which can be combined with one another to create sixty card decks. It contains new full art lands as well, but you only get ten in the box (Five of them foil, with the other five being regular). So basically you get a friend, open up the box, you and the friend shuffle up two decks, and play. I like this idea because when you are looking for a quick game and want some extra fun, you can take out the five decks and combine two however you want, sit down, and have a game.
So is Unsanctioned worth it? I would say yes. It depends on whether you like the un sets or not. But the concept seems fun, there are a bunch of old cards coming back, and the fact that you can combine different decks for different gameplay makes more options for how you want to play. I'm excited for this to come out and see what it's like!
That's all for today, bye!
Note: Unglued actually did contain full art lands like its two successors.
