Hello, and welcome to the first part in a series of making pioneer decks! With so many options to talk about, I want to start with one of my personal favorites, Aetherworks Marvel.
So the way Aetherworks Marvel works is that you get a lot of energy in the early game and then use Aetherworks Marvel to look at the top six cards of your deck, if one of them is a big creature or amazing planeswalker, you are in luck and can play it for free. If it is not, then you can still play one of the cards for free, but you need to get more energy to use Aetherworks Marvel again. Keep getting more energy and using Aetherworks Marvel until you get a big creature to defeat your opponent with and win the game.
Now I'm not talking about any huge creature, I'm talking about the biggest creatures, the Eldrazi Titans. Emrakul, Ulamog, and Kozilek. Now each one of these eldrazi has had two versions. The original cards in the first Zendikar block are not legal in Pioneer because they are older than Return to Ravnica. But the second versions are legal. Ulamog, the Ceasless Hunger, and Kozilek, the Great Distortion, were both in the Battle for Zendikar block, and Emrakul, the Promised End was in Eldritch Moon. Now, I am going to say that Kozilek, the Great Distortion probably isn't the best option for this deck. Ulamog and Emrakul seem like better options for finishing off the game.
So, we have a good selection of big creatures to play, but now we need cards to give us energy. The only place to find cards like that are in the Kaladesh Block. Now there are a lot of energy giving cards, but probably the best options are:
Attune with Aether
Harnessed Lightning
Rogue Refiner
Whirler Virtuoso
Woodweaver's Puzzleknot
Aether Hub
Servant of the Conduit
So now we have cards to give us energy, big creatures to bring out with Aetherworks Marvel, but do we want to run planeswalkers? That is up to you. There are a lot of options, Ugin the Spirit Dragon seems like a good card to run, and a few decks have been running Oko, Thief of Crowns as well. So now, here is a decklist for Temur Aetherworks Marvel:
Creatures:
2 Elvish Mystic
4 Servant of the Conduit
4 Rogue Refiner
2 Whirler Virtuoso
4 Emrakul, the Promised End
1 Ulamog, the Ceasless Hunger
Planeswalkers
4 Ugin, the Spirit Dragon
Spells
4 Attune with Aether
4 Harnessed Lightning
1 Abrade
Artifacts
4 Aetherworks Marvel
4 Woodweaver's Puzzleknot
Lands
4 Aether Hub
4 Breeding Pool
4 Stomping Ground
2 Botanical Sanctum
3 Steam Vents
2 Forest
1 Island
1 Mountain
That's all for today! I really like Aetherworks Marvel and brewing with it. Brewing Pioneer will return with more decklists and more Ideas.
