Hello! I have not posted in forever, so it's nice to be back. I thought after Ixalan that I would have to wait till January for another set to be released. I was wrong. Before Rivals of Ixalan comes out in January, Wizards Of The Coast has released a new set, Unstable. Unstable was released on December eighth, 2017. It's not like any MTG block we have seen before. Full of wacky and strange cards, new abilities, and the first ever Urza planeswalker, Unstable is a sight to behold. Unstable also features contraptions, which is an entirely new artifact! With so much to talk about, I will try to explain Unstable the best I can.
The first thing you need to know about Unstable is that it is a wacky and jokey kind of set. the cards are pretty funny, some of my personal favorites are...
Really Epic Punch
Clock of DOOOOOOOOOOOOM
Mandatory Friendship Shackles
Optical Optimizer
Thud-for-Duds
X
Earl of Squirrel
Super-Duper Death Ray
Party Crasher
Box of Free-Range Goblins
Extremely Slow Zombie
For all you newcomers that are just starting MTG [Magic the Gathering] Real Magic cards aren't this strange. Unstable is full of weird and funny card names, unlike other sets.
Now let's talk about the new artifact, a contraption. Contraptions are entirely new to Magic, and are very exciting. The way to use contraptions is pretty simple, when you start your game, you put your contraptions in one deck, and your main deck in the usual place. The back of contraption cards are different than regular magic cards, instead of the usual back, contraption cards show three gears, named one, two, and three. Every turn you move to the next gear, this happens over, and over, forever. To assemble a contraption, you must play a card that has a ability or a spell that let's you assemble a contraption. When you assemble a contraption, you may choose a gear to put it on, every turn you move to the next gear, when you move to a gear, you Crank it, which activates every contraption's ability on that gear. For example, let's say you play the card Finders Keepers, which is a sorcery that let's you destroy a creature and assemble a contraption, so you would draw off the top of your contraption deck, let's say you drew Bee-Bee Gun, which when cranked let's you give a creature "Pay 2: this creature fights another target creature." So you would decide which gear to put it one, let's say that gear your on is gear two. so in this case if you wanted to use Bee-Bee Gun as soon as possible, you would but it on gear three, that way it would happen next turn. when a contraption is activated, it does not leave the gear it is on.
That is all for today, I am so glad to be blogging again, see you next time!
