Wow! 2018 was started with a new Magic: the Gathering set! But was it good, is it fun, and does it qualify as a good MTG set? Let's find out! Rivals of Ixalan was released on January 19 of 2018. It brought more tribal to the brewing table for standard, and made merfolk a better tribe choice to play for FNM (Friday Night Magic). Not all the cards though, were built for standard. Many cards in the set were built for Commander. Lot's of high cost cards, and cards that would only do well in commander. For gameplay, this set had some very fun and cool abilities. Ascend is My favorite. Also returning abilities like explore, and raid were also a good feature. The only problem with this set is that, for now, there are not much cards that cost a lot. That means that booster packs won't come with more expensive cards than other sets. Yes, there are twenty dollar cards, but only very few. Final conclusion? Rivals of Ixalan is a fun, exiting set!
